Sharp Pocket computer moel 1261

A friend recently gave me a Sharp 1261 pocket computer w/o the user's
manuel.

After replacing the batteries works fine. However, when I depress a letter key
In any mode, I get characters that look like asian script.

Anyone knowwhat I can do to correct the above?

I purchased a Sharp 1262 on E-bay and had the same problem. My solution which may not be yours is that I pressed on the backside at the hole that said reset while the computer was turned on and erased whatever was programed. After I turned it off and then on I went ahead and reprogrammed in what I wanted.

Look in some of the first Follow Ups - dick Schmidt wrote some stuff about this and the 1360 version and I think he covers a lot of this kind of thing.
