Jack Van Berg
My favorite trainer passed a couple of days ago. I met Mr. Van Berg at DFW airport several years ago as he was off to a track and I was off to somewhere. I saw him from a distance coming out of the restroom from a ways away but I decided to go shake his hand and maybe have a conversation. He was so surprised that I knew who he was (before Texas racing) and we had a nice visit. He seemed so pleased that he was recognized in the Texas desert of no racing and we had a short conversation before he was off to catch his plane. I have always followed him just to see how he was doing. In my opinion he was one of the great men of the racing industry and also great trainer.
We will miss him. God speed Jack. bud |

Hi Bud
I'm sorry for your loss of somebody you admire and came to know. Over my years i have had similar experiences, Mostly Doc and Jim Bradshaw. I am also thankful to have met men like Mark Farraro, Gene Garcia and Cliff Garrison. These men all taught me about what being an honest hard worker gets you It opens up many nice doors RIP Jack Van Berg https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-rac...erg-dies-at-81 Bill |

Hi Bill
Glad you had a good Christmas and are progressing heath and life wise. My admiration for Jack Van Berg is second to meeting and visiting with the Doc in Beaumont. It was about the time he had just gotten out of the hospitle but he insisted on Donna and I coming. He was obviously feeling bad but tolerated us anyway. Quite a gentleman. He told me that I probably could not excell as a handicapper since I was an engineer but I think I (in my mind) proved him wrong as I have done well in my limited play. I wish that I could bet on line but I've too much to risk if I do. Don't get to the track much with work but I plan to this spring. Anyway I'm glad you had a great family Christmas and continue to recover in great shape. We all are praying for you and hope to meet you and all the guys at Sar or at Del Mar in the future. Bucket List!
May God bless you and keep you safe, Bud |
