I beleive that Wanna Runner is a long gone winner in the Lone Star Derby. Only one horse can match strides with him in the first two calls of a projected 46.4 and a 110.4.
At Hollywood Park Race No. 9, I beleive this race holds a 5-1 shot winner I'm just not for sure who. Areyou talkintome will make the lead in a 21.2 or 21.3 first fraction. The second fraction of 44,1 projected time forces Areyoutalkintome to run a 22.3 middle quarter if not faster. I was not fir sure what to do with Thunder Ridge. It appears he may need a race as his last time of coming off a layoff in a fast race shape and all he could manage was a 3rd place finish. I would appreciate hearing others opinion on these two races. I log on here because I appreciate discussing horses with great handicappers as each of you are. I look forward yto your comments and potential winner selections. Dap |

Dear Dap:
Taking a quick look at the Hollywood screens you have posted I was wondering what you thought of Siren. It looks like Siren will be pushing Areyou all of the way and perhaps put Areyou away. A lot depends on how fast you think those two will push each other to go faster than they normally do. If they go faster than they can then there is some chance that a presser or closer will win the race. Touch shoud put some pressure on the two leaders on the turn. The question is will Touch have enough momentum to carry that pressure to the wire and win. Cigar and Prorun are fairly far back early and may be too far out of it. Therefore, the race depends on how fast the first fraction goes. If it goes too fast for the leaders then they will be passed. But, if the horses run within their ability then one of the two leaders will win. Question - how much are the two leaders "need to lead" type runners? That will help determine the winner. Lone Star seems a little different to me. Wanna looks like outstanding comparative class based on the numbers you have posted. However, I see 3 horses going early. Looks like they will be fairly tight going into the turn. Now, class may very well prevail, as you pointed out. However, that certainly opens the door for the lone closer, Pursuit. Normally, I would say Pursuit is much too far back to be considered a serious threat. But, today I want to know what the early fractions will do to the early leaders. Question - can any of the three early horses withstand the early fractions and extend their ability all of the way to the wire? Gary |
