Woodbine
Hoof Thank you for all your time and information.
Woodbine is very popular here in Soc Cal, At least as far as I can tell from the crowd reactions to some of the prices. I feel kind of sorry for the track selectors though. Do they ever have large carryovers? It seems like with the kind of wild results that happen so often, they would. Hi late Kick I have heard the poly track here at Del Mar called Gray Grass so I suppose its fine to mix Poly and Turf But I don't ... I only work races on poly with poly lines and turf with turf lines I hardly ever bet or give much attention to tracks with synthetic surfaces so I have no opinion on how to bet them Good Skill Bill |

Hey Bill
The HI-5 is the only carryover you will find at Woodbine, everything else gets paid out. If there are no P4 winners, then it gets divided amongst the 3/4 winners, the same with the P3. With the introduction of the 20 cent wager it’s pretty rare that you will see a 3/4 winner or a 2/3 winner. It’s common knowledge that Poly and Turf lines are interchangeable, and not just at Woodbine. As far as other synthetic surfaces like Tapeta or Pro-ride and Cushion are concerned, i have no idea, i’ve never worked those types of surfaces. This years Queens Plate champion Lexie Lou had only raced on the Poly her entire career, and yesterday raced on the Turf for the first time, she won by 3 lengths in a hand ride in the Wonder Where Stakes. Woodbine isn't all that different from other tracks, you get your fair share of longshots here as you do at other tracks. There are stretches where it's nothing but chalk for days, and then stretches of value plays. There are two things that cause longshots at Woodbine, a radical change in the track bias, and lightly raced or young horses that haven't shown their ceiling yet. Woodbine has a healthy diet of 2 and 3 year old maidens, and you will find these types of races produce value plays. Stakes races at Woodbine produce a lot of value, the favorite wins somewhere in the neighborhood of 15% of the time, so it's always a good idea to avoid the chalk in stakes races. |
