Woodbine Meetup - Aug 13/14

Hello All,

A number of us are planning to convene again this year at Woodbine on August 13/14 for a fun day of racing and comparing notes on handicapping practice. Gandalf (and Mrs Gandalf), me, Mum and several others so far are planning to attend.

In years past, if the weather is fair, we have sat on the outdoor patio, 3rd floor, Champions Lounge. All are welcome, and feel free to announce your attendance if you like.

For those of you coming from out of town, here are 3 hotels very nearby, and many, many others since this is near the airport:

1. Comfort Hotel: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Rev...o_Ontario.html 2 minutes walk to Woodbine (restaurant)
2. Woodbine Hotel and Suites: https://www.expedia.ca/Toronto-Hotel...el-Information 5 minute walk (no restaurant, though good breakfast)
3. International Plaza Hotel: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Rev...o_Ontario.html (2 nice restaurants, bar), 3 minute DRIVE

For those of you coming from the US, remember: you DO need a Passport!

One thing I ALWAYS do when I'm near the track in the early morning is come out and watch the workouts (from the inner rail at the top of the stretch!) Maybe early Saturday, or early Sunday morning Join me, if nearby!

Come one, come all! Looking forward to seeing folks there!

Sounds good, you can count me in, are you planning for 2 days of racing? Or are you picking the day that has the best weather?

As well, there’s a free shuttle service to Woodbine Racetrack from most of the nearby hotels, and seeing that the track is located right beside the airport, there are a lot of hotels to pick from.

Morning workouts? I’ll have to get back to you on that, Hoof needs his beauty sleep.

Not the greatest weekend for stakes races....

August 13 – Shady Well Stakes for Ontario bred 2 year old fillies, 6.5F on the Turf

August 14 – Vandal Stakes for Ontario bred 2 year olds, 6.5F on the Turf.

Well, at least Saturday August 13. I'll be staying in town for the 14th as will a few others, so it may simply be whoever's there, or whoever couldn't make it the Saturday.

got back late on Tuesday after spending time in Kingston Ont (Thousand Islands region). Stayed at the Holiday Inn which is next to the pier for the cruise boats. Very nice 90 minute cruise of St Lawrence River and beginning of Lake Ontario.

Had a great time at Woodbine as usual. Got to hang out with Ted, Barb, Pook, and Mike from Nashville. What a gem of a guy he is. It was fairly profitable and look forward to the get together next year. Always find these meetings helpful in learning the ins and outs of the programs. Highly recommend them.
