DRF vs. Trackmaster

I just came across this post. I’ve never been a fan of the Trackmaster ratings when using the DOS programs. Two different animals. Fractional and beaten lengths in 10th,’s vs 5th’s, etc. Perceptor vs DRF with variant are not equal often and a lot more. I have RDSS but I am going back to DRF (no offense to Ted).

No offence taken, pianoman, though I wish I understood what you're talking about .

RDSS does not make use of TrackMaster ratings - only the same raw data everyone else gets from Equibase/TrackMaster. Unless you use the TrackMaster Speed Rating for something, or the Race Class (RC) rating for something - neither a part of the Methodology, both dispensable (except TrackMaster SR for Euro horses). Beaten lengths are identical with DRF (in RDSS quarter lengths are rounded up for display purposes only). Fractional seconds are expressed in 10ths versus 5ths, yes - sorry for the extra accuracy.

Variants - yes, apples vs oranges. TrackMaster's are consistent (average = 0; slower/faster= greater/lesser than 0), perhaps DRF is also consistent with a different average. Choose your fruit.

You are always welcomed to keep returning to RDSS, no worries. Good luck/skill, always!

Ted

Thanks Ted, the issue that bugs me is probably the race and track variants. When I have the DRF and RDSS side by side, I’m just not confident with the readouts when Thoromation differs from RDSS since the first instructions for Thoromation were to select a recent line with the highest speed rating plus variant. Are the eighteen months that Sartin and Trackmaster worked to get compatibility with the DRF still valid? There has been many years gone by since then. Do I go with the Perceptor paceline or the DRF with variant paceline when they differ? Obviously I don’t know the ends and outs of the formulae’s and algorithms that go with any of the software programs. I wouldn’t mind using RDSS to export. Thank you for clarifying the beaten lengths issues I was having. Maybe I’ll rethink the matter. It’s always good to get another opinion. I welcome all to comment.

Hello Ted, my "solution" was staring me in the face.I just need to go to the Config screen and make the adjustments that were bothering me. I'll make small wagers to see if this will work for me. Thanks again for your comments.
