John,
I have my own original disk set for Synthesis (SYNT - TrackMaster?) and for SYN (manual?) which I am, for some reason, not yet ready to give up, otherwise I would just give them to you. (Just need to find a 3.5" diskette drive to try to load them, to make that decision or see if they are even any good - LOL!) I don't sell ANY of the older Sartin programs - excepting Validator4 which I upgraded myself from Doc's source code and with his permission (and send any $$$ I occasionally receive directly to the Sartins.) My earlier communication in this thread above with DSL (as best I can remember it) was to re-send to him the software from the original PL disks I had mailed to him earlier. As you may know, the policy here at P&C is to not encourage 'sharing' of copies of Doc's software. However, folks may certainly sell or gift their ORIGINAL software disks which they bought and paid for. Perhaps you could reiterate your request if anyone else here has manual Synthesis ORIGINAL disks which they would consider selling or giving to you. Good luck! Ted

John,
Well - thank you for that offer! I decided to bite the bullet and plunk down CAD $15 including shipping to buy one on Amazon myself! Now I'll be able to read all those old 3.5 inch diskettes I got from Guy Wadsworth and Doc (and my own old ones) without having to boot up my 15 year old Win98 laptop, which I can't find the power cord for anyway ... Should have it in a week or so and I'll try to fire up my Synthesis disks and see if they still work in a DOS or WinXP emulated environment. I'll let you know if this means I can send you anything. Until then! Ted

re-it-er-ate
hi, Ted - it doesn't happen so often!
re-it-er-ate: To say or do something over and over again. I'm an RDSS user and have a 3-1/2" floppy drive! QUOTE "I don't sell ANY of the older Sartin programs - excepting Validator4 which I upgraded myself from Doc's source code and with his permission (and send any $$$ I occasionally receive directly to the Sartins.)" UNQUOTE Please send a screen shot of Validator4 if it's "NOT THE PROGRAM WITH LOTS OF BLUE BACKGROUND." thank you in advance, Ted. DSL |

One interpretation is: please send you a screenshot of a random Val4 screen if it's NOT the one with lots of blue background. Thus, since Val4 has lots of blue background on its screens, I WON'T send it to you. If you WANT to see a screenshot of Val4, there are LOTS of posts in this particular sub-forum by Bill V where he says he is posting Val4 screenshots. Et voilà ... Ted

I finally got my new USB floppy drive! I copied the SYNT files from my original diskette to a hard drive and loaded SYNT in Dosbox (on Windows Vista). It opens and runs fine, though I cannot load up any TrackMaster files regardless of where I place them (C:\SYNT\TRKMAST, C:\TRKMAST, C:\SYNT ...) although I have lots of them and can create any from RDSS. Maybe SYNT looks elsewhere for its TrackMaser files ...? I am not really interested in reading the old manual to find out. It does not appear to be copy protected. You are welcomed to it - FWIW! Just send me an email or PM with your mailing address. Cheers, Ted

Help with Synthesis TrackMaster (SYNT)
I am trying to resurrect SYNT (Synthesis for TrackMaster) using my original diskette. I CAN get the program to load: in Windows Vista and an old Windows98 computer running just by itself; and in Windows 8 running inside DosBox.
However, after downloading a fresh card file from TrackMaster (not using one exported from RDSS), and placing it in the C:\TRKMAST folder or in the C:\SYNT\TRKMAST folder when running inside DosBox - the program reports that the specified card file is not found - on ALL versions of Windows. This makes me think that I am simply not operating the software correctly (because I think I actually originally ran it on that old Win98 computer!) I cannot find my documentation for SYNT. Is it possible that TrackMaster files should be placed elsewhere than in the TRKMAST folder? Or, any other ideas why freshly downloaded and clearly existing files would not be found? I tried naming the TrackMaster card file in SYNT with ALL CAPS and all lower case - no difference. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance! Ted
