Using Dirt for Synthetic lines
IS it okay to use dirt lines for a synthetic track like Arlington?
Can i use lines from Hawthorne and feel confident they will represent well even though the horse is now going to be running on a different surface |

I bet both Golden Gate and Woodbine and I try very hard not to use a dirt line. What I do first is look at there Synthetic history and if its good I fell better about using the dirt line, if its poor (no wins) than I am very skeptical about using the line and the horse. If they have no history I take a good look at the workouts or try and find some sire stats.

Latekick..I often run into this problem...I won't use a pace line on a horse if it doesn't have a good race on that particular surface in the past performances. My suggestion for AP is to wait until they have raced on the surface before handicapping any races.
Just my opinion |

What ever happened to Bill V, and Ted, and the old pros on here? ive been away from the site because without rdss i find it hard to handicap after becoming accustomed to the readouts but because of some budget issues i cant really keep paying for rdss even though i love the program. But ive been away from the site and i dont see Bill V or Ted in the forums anymore, they gave up on the program or are they just busy?

Between starting out as Binder - Admin then being Bill V. I think I have over 10000 post ON PACE AND CAP I think Ted is busy getting the next RDSS update out and Ted was very involved over at Pace Advantage ( ? ) I myself have been working with the classic programs and the people who use them. I try to keep sharp and in touch with all the Sartin programs That said, If I told you in Entropy the deceleration par for Hawthorne dirt routes is 914 and for Arlington its 939 would you be able to use it ? have no fear I am never far away from my home at P-C GS Bill |

Latekick,
Good to see you again! I am indeed still here. Usually I don't feel the need to repeat what someone else has said perfectly well enough (atkinsrr's advice re let the horse prove it likes the surface first). If you have a tool which effectively adjusts times run on one surface/track to times run on another (e.g. RDSS), then if the horse has not proven adverse to today's surface, let the adjustments suggest what times the horse might run today. If you don't have such a tool, it is more difficult. Perhaps that's when you need to be more cautious and only use lines from the same surface/track, which is unfortunately what many other handicappers will also be doing ... I am indeed working on a significant update to RDSS. I have also spent a little time at PaceAdvantage (not that you'd notice much), contest promotion, outreach. I spend about half my (working) time giving tutorials (if asked), answering questions (often by email or remote sessions), doing technical support for RDSS, helping new folks get set up, etc. The other half doing programming. I try to answer at least all questions put directly to me. I've really been enjoying the Triple Crown races this year so far. RDSS has been smokin' Take care, Ted
