Valm Question

I am tryingto figure out how to use Valm - but I don't see a menu option to manually enter data. Do you have to run the races through another Sartin program first, then import it into Valm?

Thanks,

Tom

Entering lines

Tom In the video I only entered 1 line
here is a screen shot with 4 lines entered

when you are done entering your lines just hit enter
you will see the screen looks like this
just look at the red box at the bottom of each screen
It will guide you what to do

bill: there's been indications on this board that valuator is wry on the speedrating. does this apply to valm? can i trust it using par times/three year best times?

does it have any user input adjustments for energy figures?

thanks,
tlt

hello TLT

I am a bit confused and everyone might be after this
screenshot

This is a horse thats running tonight 04/03/07
at Mountaineer in the 9th race named lucky drummer

In the screenshot I started with the DRF information
from handcapperdaily

I entered line 2 into valm
I picked this horse and this line because it is from the same track -MNR
same mile distance and the speed rating is a decent 76
even if the horse lost by 13.25

so what you see is the raw data
then under that Is what Valm is adusting the line 2
Its very close - Thats a good thing

Under the valm line is what Val 2006 is adjusting the line too
If you look close and you can see that the fractions and BL are a little different

Under the val2006 lines are the same line from Val3
This is way different look at these numbers

Seeing this I can say that Valm is a little effected But
Not at all as bad a Validator 3 using the new data that was change
on Feb 2 2006

Nice review of Valm, Bill. Since the program was set up for 3 year best times and a DRF variant, there's logically no reason why Trackmaster's data change should have any effect on it at all. It was designed as the last of a long line of programs for people who enter their lines by hand from the Daily Racing Form.

I would be very careful about using par times instead of the 3 year best. A par is going to generally be quite a bit slower than track records and that might skew the adjustments. It might work out ok, but I would test them side by side to see what it did first

Using VALM you should not enter a paceline where the horse finished more than 7.5 lengths back. If you do the readouts are not right. Better to pick a different paceline or if the horse is that bad skip him.
