Disturbing Events in Racing
This year NYS made 4 BILLION dollars from racing. Last week NYRA voted to increase admission prices at Saratoga & Belmont. General admission went from $3 to $5, while clubhouse admission went from $5 to $8. NYRA made the argument that only a bunch of idiots could make, that it's way cheaper than other sporting events. That may be true in terms of a ticket to get in, but in football, basketball, baseball, etc., the price of admission includes a seat, and, patrons do not need money to bet every 30 minutes.
However, far more disturbing is the closing of Hollywood Park. Minor league tracks have closed before, but this is a major track. They couldn't make it profitable. Very sad. I had a box above the paddock, and my horses frequented the winners circle. That was a long time ago, but still, the horses have to run somewhere, and one hopes that there are enough people going to the track while the rest of us bet from home. |

You notice that they didn't do the same thing at Aqueduct.
They'll charge whatever they think the traffic will bear. If people would pay $50, they'd charge $50. |
