Total Energy
Im wondering let's say you have a 6.5 fur race and have it down to 4 contenders and your using raw data. manual entry.Three of the horses pacelines are at 6 fur and the other is at 6.5.
1) Wouldnt the 6 fur pacelines be wrong because they are going an extra 1\2 furlong? 2)When you are equalizing the distances in Energy does it do the same for the Total Energy as well? 3)Would it better like what Purdy says to do in Synergism and setup the race at 6fur because those are the most like pacelines? 4)Just put in all pacelines at today's distance even though they have a better recent line at another distance? I dont know if this makes much sense but didnt know a better way to put it. Thanks Jeff |

Shoeless,
It does make sense. To me the one adjustment that I think is the hardest to quantify is distance adjustments. So using raw data, unadjusted energy numbers will normally give the edge to the 6 furlong pace lines as their velocities will normally be higher. It you get a case where the opposite is true, you have a great bet. In this case, comparing 6 furlongs to 6.5 is not that burdensome. If you want some further validation that the times are "equal" you could look at the Beyers as a guide. If one were to test whether or not the distance equalization in use was effective, if you had a db, you could query the win % of #1 energy horses running at 6 furlongs today who's last race (paceline selected) was at 6.5 furlongs. It should be about the same as the W% of #1 energy horses whose Last race (paceline) was from a 6 furlong race. |

6 to 6.5
Jeff, delayjf has the answer you might be looking for. It is true that 6 furlong races would have higher velocities than 6.5 furlongs. He makes a good point in that if a horse has a higher TE at 6.5 than another horse at 6 it may be a good bet.

Hi Jeff
Not sure if this is any use to you as the track sample size used is small, but i'll post it any way Code:
Total E Fr1 Fr 2 Fr 3 6f Sample size 14 FPS Average 59.30581357 56.54770732 52.45699349 168.3105144 35.24% 33.60% 31.17% 6.5f Sample Size 6 FPS Average 59.19642558 57.55831256 53.05359414 169.8083323 34.86% 33.90% 31.24%

Keep in mind that sustained runners may well have higher total energies as the 3rd fraction distance is short compared to EP. If sustained is not winning at your track, then it won't matter much. Also, turf distances will usually display higher total energies vs. their dirt counterparts.

In your example Shoe:
If all 4 horses are within 2 points total energy to start I would use the 3 adjust in Energy! to stabilize things between the 6 and 6.5 bucks. That will make all total energies exactly the same and the subsequent readouts will reflect strictly the behavioral patterns of the horses.
