Synergism 3 vs Synergism 4
Thanks to Mike( Houndog) here are the results from both programs
using the same pacelines. It seems that Syn 3 would be closer to Syn 2 as it figures on a par variant. Also Mike ran these same pacelines through a simple TPR program from Tom Hambilton and the TPR ratings in Syn 3 were more in line then Syn 4. |

It's quite a bit of work. I would not ever want to impose on Mike but I was hopeful he might do it again. However, I believe that a file export to Synergism 2 from RDSS is in the works and that would eliminate updating par files for that software if one exported an adjusted RDSS file to Synergism 2. Naturally, I would like to see an export file for Synergism 3 and 4 because those 2 programs have a pace projection feature in them. I'm an advocate of pace projection and feel that it would be nice to get an idea of what type of horse would be favored at a specific projected pace. It makes splitting horses easier and would appeal to the one horse win bettor. |

Bill,
If you could use the Trackmaster data into Syn 2 how would that differ in the readouts you get if you did it manually. You get the adjustments from the program by entering raw data. As far as the updates go Mike told me how to go about doing it and he says it's not difficult but it is very time consuming. Jeff |

An RDSS export file to Synergism 2, 3 or 4 would be based on the Trackmaster Data Files and the RDSS interpretation of the race. My preference would be to do my paceline selection through RDSS and export the adjusted file to a Synergism file. No other steps would be necessary other then reading and making your final decision from the Synergism software you choose to use. It's the same as exporting a file to Energy. If you chose to do it manually you could but it would take you more time and work but the results would be the same. |

Synergism III vs Synergism IV
Parts and Jeff; Synergism III is picking up the Average Daily Variant from the Par File. In the example that Jeff shows I made the DRF variant and the Par Variant (Average Daily Variant) the same so I could compare the programs more directly.
In your day to day handicapping this would not be the case. If you are using the racing form you would plug in the variant for that paceline which when compared to the Par Variant (Average Daily Variant) would adjust the TPR numbers up or down accordingly. Some comments: It seems Synergism IV uses the Par File differently than Synergism III. When I updated the Par Files I used the same par files for both programs and renamed them according to what each program called for. I cannot say exactly how Synergism IV is treating the par file differently but it is. Synergism IV has a setup file which allows you to use the a Projected Variant; DRF Style Variant; and the Beyer Number for your variant. You can also choose from %Early or %Med; whether to adjust for Track Class; default track; ranking choice; and overlay odds percentage. Synergism III has no such set-up file. What I do like it shows the type of adjustments being made more so than Synergism IV. It gives you both %Early and %Median so need to choose. The only variant choice you have is the DRF type variant. I think what it comes down to is what readouts you like and how they are being shown. For DOS programs they were very well written and Bob Purdy deserves credit for this. Regards-----Mike "Houndog" |

Sorry Bill
Sorry Bill Percent Med is the same total of fraction 1 + 2 in the pecent energy
calculations Here is a Horse 4 from Parx yesterday race 6 I had this winner win and Place In screen shot 1 I have the velocity tab open For pace line 2 Energ percentage for F1 and F2 are 33.97 and 34.44 add them together and the total is 68.41 Now look at the Energy tab in screen two and look at %Med for line 2 %68.4 Percent medium is Fraction 1 +2 in energy percentage GS Bill |
