I think the idea here is to come up with a contender list from which to select possible wagers. Actual wagers might depend on odds and various situations of the particular race(s). Also, the conditions of the race might affect the actual wager employed or possibly a pass situation... maybe 2 yo maiden claiming fillies on the turf isn't your preferred conditions.

Exactly RW. Because you cap a race doesn't mean you have to play it.

Type of bet

The reason for my question is I don't understand the recap after the races? Win loss for the day showing tris,Exactas And so on.So how were the bets structured being that your showing 4 contenders in each race? Top 2 with next 2?4 horse box?....?

Ok. First the recap shows how the top 4 faired in all the types of bets offered at the track being played. As for structure that is determined by odds and probable payoffs and type of bet being made. The final wagering recap is the actual bet total of my wager and the amount of profit/loss for the day. If there is a big hit I usually will post the ticket for folks to see.

My interpretation of what Tim said... after the contender list, the rest is the art factor in handicapping. Tim is a Rembrandt.

I don't know how Tim ranks his horses 1 to 4. But I know that I tend to come out with my 4 contenders being win contenders and I miss the verticals a lot. So, for me, I usually hit more horizontals than verticals. As Doc Sartin stated, picking the second horse is not the same as picking the first horse. And that's certainly true for the fourth place finisher who is just passing tired horses.

Thanks RW but a long way from a Rembrandt. After contender selection I move horses based on my models, and Scott and Quirin factors. The t=thing to remember we are talking tiers and not linear ranks.
