Looks good Dick!
Don't forget, when you go to post your picks in the June Contest, you need to start a thread for yourself, titled with your User Name (rmath). Then, your picks for the month go in that thread (see how a few folks have initiated their threads in the June Contest Forum (http://paceandcap.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=105) Good luck tonight! Ted

Thanks
Ted, Bill, & Patrick, Thanks for all the help in learning how to screen capture.
Do you want a screen capture for every race or are we allowed to post our bets and selections without them. Bill, is there a minumum number of bets required to compete. How would you score it if someone made one maxmimum bet of 100.00 and hit a20/1 shot and stopped playing? This would give them a perfect score. I think there should be a minumum requirement. Just a thought. |

I should have the Official Contest Rules posted either tonight or tomorrow morning, but they're a recap of the points made in the initial Discussion thread.
One important nuance: the Contest is graded on accumulated Bankroll AND Consistency (i.e. Hit Rate). If you make your 20 races and your bankroll has accumulated to say, $3000 by whatever combinations of bets, you multiply your Bankroll by your Hit Rate to get your Final Score. If you hit a wager in 11 out of 20 races, your Hit Rate (i.e. your 'batting average') is 11/20 = .550. $3000 x .550 = $1650 and that's your Final Score. Along with capping Win mutuels at 20-1 and Place at 10-1, you probably won't win the Contest by hitting 4 out of 20 races at monster mutuels; you probably have to be a bit more consistent, rather than 'swinging for the fences' with longshots as in some other Contests. The Contest Score sheet updated regularly will track this combination of Bankroll and Hit Rate throughout the Contest. The skill and strategy involved is in picking races and wagers which hit frequently enough and at a decent enough mutuels (in either the Win or Place pools) to make a steady and positive return on the wagering process. Agreed that not everyone focuses on the Win and Place pools, but even if you specialize in other vertical or horizontal wagers, the Win and the Place horse are always the foundation of all the rest of the wagers. At least this is the idea for our Contest - let's see how it works out over the first month! Good luck to you! Ted

Just for clarity, what do you mean when you refer to 'Comp' rating? And I presume you mean, for example '#3 is a 3-1 rating', means rank 3 on VDC and rank 1 on 'Comp'. This question doesn't have anything to do with the rules of the Contest, I was just interested in understanding your decision process (and I'm sure others are as well). This Contest is all about learning! Thanks! Ted

Comp rating
Ted, Yes you are right about the ratings , they are the VDC rank and the Comp SR that is on the right hand side of the New Pace screen.
I have found that with the Dtv set at 100, the top 5 comp sr rated horses win a very high % of the time. When the top 3 VDC and top3 Comp sr agree I am getting 70+ % winners. In most races I only end up with one or two key horses. Hope this clears things up. Bye the way Patrick and I have been comparing races using the 50% DTV and a lot of times we get different ratings and different horses in our top 5 comp ratings. I would like to give credit to Mike Sal for pointing out the difference when using the different settings for DTV. rmath |

Default setting

Thanks for your post. I value your research & input! Do you have any comparison data using "Default" VS VAL4 Emulation? I was & still am a Validator user and I use the Val4 Setting in RDSS1 & RDSS2. I understand Validator was written with a variable value for a length while Speculator "Default" setting in RDSS1 & RDSS2 use a constant length value. Ted can probably clear up the differences but I am more interested in which setting has a higher hit rate in the VDC rating (and Comp. rateing for that matter). Thanks Ken |
