Attacking a Race
Im mainly addressing this to any newbies out there,in my opinion the first thing you should do when attacking a race is READ THE CONDITIONS.There is a wealth of information there that cannot be given to you by program readouts. This was from a race at CT on Saturday night,if you notice the conditions of the race and look down to the Feb 24th paceline you will see what I mean.By the way in the pp's the small s means state bred just in case you didnt know.I know people will come out of the woodwork and look back at this race and say oh this program or this way would have gotten the winner and that's great AFTER THE FACT.I know everyone has a way of doing things and none of them is wrong. But if you want to improve your cappin this is one thing that will surely help.Oh by the way he went off 8-1 and won.

Ironic you post this now. I was listening to the pro paceline tapes in Club area last night and TWO different pros mentioned on the tapes how they looked at the race conditions IMMEDIATELY before doing anything! You sure you are not a mind reader bud? Good stuff |

Forgot about that name and probably others.
Ray Taulbot was another one of Doc's favorite and repetitive mentions for reference. VoodooFan |

Jim Quinn's "The Handicappers Condition Book" is a classic read.

Lesson 2
I have been looking first at numbers then looking who fits the conditions of the race,BIG MISTAKE it should be the other way around.Dont just go to your computer readouts first. If anyone else would like to post how they attack a race feel free even though I doubt I will get much reponse. On PA they brought up if you knew something that makes you a winner would you be willing to share it.I thought about this and yes I would even though on this board I feel most would not.I know Im going to hear Admin say friends helping friends but think about it ARE WE REALLY DOING THAT. |

Hi everybody.
Bill Your method is what I've been doing, except that I will hide any in the top 3 that is less than 5/2. I'm not at your win rate though. I've been doing Belmont this week and have been having the same trouble Froggy and some of the others have. Until I read that thread, I thought it was just me. It was quite a comedown from last week. Hi Barb
about hiding anythng under 5/2 I did that back in the day - Its what Doc suggested These days I can only do one or two races a day so basically like this title says if I start a race I have to attack it. If all my reaouts say the # 1 rated horse is the winner I am not going to hide and bet against it because the odds are low I rather would make the win bet on it and look at the other contenders for a nice place or show bet If I had more time and the chance to do many races I would hide Today I have to attack when I get the chance Your doing great Bill |

I figured since Pino and Bill did such a fine job listing then so would I
1)I go through the races at the tracks Im playing and mark which races I will look at.I only play sprints with horses that have won at least 2 races and turf events 2)Check conditions of race and see who qualifys as a contender 3)I go through each horse and circle the 1's in the 1st and 2nd call then will circle the times.Im doing a kind of Match Up Pizzolla's way he explains this in FU 8 4)I will cross out the horses who I feel cannot compete in today's race 5)pick pacelines will try not to go more then 3 back if possible prefer last race 6)run CJ'S numbers to confirm my anaylsis and further narrow down 7)take remaining horses and run through Synergism 4 I would like to add something here to the mix BIGGEST WEAKNESSES 1) Not having a good money management plan mapped out before races start[this is a downfall of many astute players] 2) Not being able to interperate info correctly that is before me to be able to profit from the race[i will say 80% percent of the time I have the winner in top 3 at least this was happening when Tampa was running] |

Shoe,
Thanks for starting this thread as it has been very helpful. Lately I have been very unorganized about paceline selection, analyzing output and wager capping. Your post and the others are helping me develope a consistent game plan. Bud
