My intitial thoughts and first races using RDSS

Ted,

I really want to take the time to thank you for sharing this program with all of us. Ever since shanta/rich showed me a few screen shoots from the program last year on paceadvantage, I just couldnt wait to get a copy of it.

This program is so clean and functional its quite amazing, I can really see where I could prorbably get to a level where I could handicap a race in less then 5 minutes. To me thats saying something!!!!!!

The layout, workflow, and presentation are awesome, the type versus background doesnt make me visually fatigued (one of the problems I had with HTR). There isnt this mass overload of information, each screen has the necessary information - even though its probably going to take me a Loonnnggg time to understand what all the numbers are actully telling, how particular ratings affect others, and what ratings will assit me in my handicapping. All and all a great job.

I didnt have a lot of time so I only worked three races on the Sunday card at Hollywood (3,4,9) using the matchup. I was quite amazed even though I only won 1 out of the three (I only bet on 2 out of the three).

I won my very first race using the match up, rdss, and one of your angles (OTE when you have 3 or more no dominate earlies). In minutes I had narrowed the race to the #3 which ended up paying $37.50. The 4th race I got beat by a first time starter, and the 9th race I didnt bet because the #5 Lady gamer just looked to be unstoppable. I rarely bet against horses that have the ability to run on the lead and or come off the pace and she does both quite well. She won took the field wire to wire.

All and all it was a good day as far as I was concerned. I just have a few questions.

Is there anyway to flag horses so your alerted when the next time they race. The FTS that beat me in the 4th will probably come back and win the next race easily. So it would be nice to be able to have some type of "live horse" indicator. Second, do you have any plans on incorporating bloodstock breeding info especially for FTS, like %W from the stud/dam. Also, can we expect some modeling down the road - I guess this can actually be done in excel if the data can be exported (but I havent figured out a good system for modeling in excel).

All in all a great programming job, and I will certainly get to do more races later this week.

Thanks for all of your hard work.

Carl

Why thank you!

Carl,

First off, I thank you for taking the time to express your initial impressions - it turns out to be an even better bonus (in the inspiration department, for me) that your comments are so positive! This project has been going on so long (I can't believe it's almost 2008 and it still isn't ready...), that sometimes I can get a little discouraged, or shall we say, a little peeved at how long it's taking me. So when folks give me feedback, either positive or negative, but at least constructive, it really does mean a lot to me. (And thank you to everyone else who has also shared their encouragement over the last while!)

I haven't thought of a tracking system per se, but I do have a design and space in the database to permit you to enter and store your own comments about either a horse or a race, so you could make such a note and have it display the next time you happen to encounter that horse. As to tracking, don't Equibase and BRIS have such services already? You could enter that horse on a horses-to-watch list. As it stands, unless you download every race and load them into the database (which you certainly can do - I do), you might miss it by relying on RDSS alone.

No, not any time soon. The only prospect might be, as RDSS becomes successful for both me and for TrackMaster, that we could use an expanded data file of theirs (Platinum variety) which includes much more breeding, jockey, trainer, combo angles, etc. If there were enough demand, that might happen. The foregoing were never high on the list of impactful factors in the Sartin Methodology.

Absolutely - it is lurking just beneath the surface now, waiting for me to get to it. The RDSS PP+Charts bundle (including real-time mutuel results) will automatically update models on about a 5 minute delay to real-time, although you can certainly flag results manually in your Analysis mix as you watch races and get the same thing without downloading Charts. Every factor should get modeled (emphasis on short-term) for rank, range, deviation, as appropriate, and given mutuel results, a ROI impact value and $Net provided as well.

Thanks for your interest Carl and for your advance work during this testing stage. Any further comments, bugs or suggestions, please always feel free to let me know!

yours,

Ted

Carl,

Re tracking system, I just noticed this post on PaceAdvantage:
http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=42031

Could be some clues re BRIS' notification system.

Hmmm,

Thats right I do have virtual stable with equibase, and my wagering account is with winticket which was converted to twinspires.

Either way, I've been converted! I am a proud and happy owner of RDSS and look forward to fast and speedy capping.
