Selections are akin to the lesson Sartin challenged all who read The Follow Up to do: when you are able to call the race WITH the caller, then you have a good enough handle on how the race will run. Selections are just that: having a good enough predictive understanding on who will go to the front, who will stay, who will come late, who will press etc etc.

WAGERING on that knowledge is another ball game in its entirety: evaluating IF that knowledge gleaned from the former predictive effort translates into a value, or a bust.

Wagering is not handicapping and handicapping is NOT wagering. They are mutually exclusive to one another as my studies on randomness have proven.

Newest book to substantiate that fact is From Cosmos to Chaos: The Science of Unpredictability, by Peter Coles, Oxford University Press 2006

ALSO: Herd behavior in Equus callibus takes time and multiple interactions to create. I refer interested parties to read Horsewatching by Desmond Morris to discover that aspect of their hard wired instinct.
