Indiana Turf - Monday
This is tonight's 7th at Indiana. Pretty good quality runners with a few potential early (2,3,8,10)

Good morning Rich...
The true earlies in this race seem to do their best running from 1st or 2nd position at the 1C. Of the 2,3,8, and 10 the 3 ran fastest 2-back but faded versus a slower pace last out on an off turf course. The 10 has been showing less early speed in the last couple of races. The 2 has done well vs slower paces than probably appears today. The 8 shows figthing in the last couple but going down to previous turf lines, I see not much versus a fast pace (line 7) and then a good race vs 24.4 49.1 112.4 (line 8). My feeling for this race is that it won't be won by someone in this group. Looking at the other entrants I like the #1 horse. Fought all the way last out on the polytrack and shows in line 10 that he can run well OTE (2nd beaten less than a length) with a nice power move vs 23.0 46.1 110.4. I'll take #1 to win. |

I think that the 3 is the best of the early runners in that he's able to come from just off the pace. He tried that last out and held well in a race that collapsed.
I thought that the 4 would run well last out, going 9F at CD, after his decent close 1st back off a long layoff. He didn't pick up his feet in that race but I can't see him not doing any running in this one with all the pace in the race. I thought the 11 would run well last out cutting back a furlong. He didn't exactly light them up but I think 8F is his best distance and he should be able to get an even better stalking trip than the 3. One of these three is going to win the race. I'll decide based on the odds. |

I went back 14 races, to 4/12/2007, and Al Basha has done nothing BUT run from the rear of the pack in all of them. TODAY, he's pressing 22.88 46.28 109.91 splits, ensuring that the 3 doesn't get loose and setting up a perfect trip for the 1. This, after cutting back a 1/16th in distance to boot. It's real easy picking winners when horses run the way they're accustomed/expected to.

Pete, I tell you what, I admire your ability to decipher these races.
Every single one I usually do just sitting behind the scenes trying to work the matchup. Every single one I am so far off I'm glad I have RDSS. In learning did you do anything other than go through the matchup forum and reading all the mind's eye topics and the instructions at the top? I've gone as far as saving them to a USB drive and reading them at work from time to time during a lunch hour or something to try to refine the skill that is the matchup. |
