Dan, the language is both unnecessary and not allowed.
The question is of course allowed. Please email me a screenshot or details about your Config Settings and i will investigate and reply. Meanwhile, thread is paused. Ted

No Dan they don't look right. I worked this race using the settings and line selections you provided. I got different F3 velocities on the Velocity screen that you showed. They seemed more normal to me. The ones you showed looked rather low and Total Energies out of whack. I note that that 5f race was taken off the turf. I don’t know the sequence of steps you took to get the screen you presented – but I simply loaded RDSS, loaded EVD May 8 then - a) changed the Surface for Race 1, b) assembled that race, c) ensured our line selections matched, then went to the Velocity screen. Here is what I got:
These velocity figs above come from these Adjusted times below: FWIW – here is the Original screen - May I suggest you return to that race, on the Card Summary Screen right-click to reassemble the race, redo any pacelines so they agree with what you showed – then see if your Velocities match the ones I show above. If you are using ANY RDSS version, I don’t see how they could not match under normal circumstances. FWIW – the code for creating velocities from Adjusted Equalized, Normalized times and beaten lengths (on the Adjusted screen) has not changed a bit since Doc’s time with Validator. Agreed 5f is an odd distance since the Final Fraction consists of only 1F. If you wanted to trace this back further, you could send me a picture of your Adjusted screen, to compare to the one I showed above. An even fuller, 'bare-metal' test would be to create a NEW blank database (Data Mgmt Tools, Create NEW Database), then restart RDSS with that new empty database and download EVD May 8 into it (since it is still available to download TODAY May 11). Then conduct the assembly and line selection to match what you chose on this pristine situation. Make sure to change the surface from the original Turf to main Track in RDSS’ Surface/Distance change tool. Let me know what numbers you find. I accept your RDSS DID produce those numbers - we're seeing them! The issue is what inputs it was using, what adjustments ... and what other possibly anomalous circumstances existed. I’m not saying I understand where your numbers came from, but by squeezing out difference between platforms and generating figs unaffected by other activities – perhaps this anomaly can be resolved. I would like to find out what's up! I think the numbers from my screenshot are correct. Standing by … Ted

My analysis of this race was correct based on what was presented. As Ted said these numbers haven't changed in many years and are the foundation and key to everything else in the program having to do with pace. Over the years things have been added that are not pace to enhance the program however these have not changed.
I totally agree with Ted that the problem must be in the setting. I added up some of the fractions and they added up to the total pace number. At lower grade tracks high % Med aren't unusual. A few years back I totally killed a race just like this based on what was presented my two horse bet would have been the 1 & 8. In any race speed must be considered & speed is incorporated into factors I.e. FX considerers the 1st FR & SC is speed HE has the 2nd FR etc. Many live and die by speed, yes you read that right. What players don't realize is that speed is less important as the distance increases. In this particular race which is 5F speed is of great importance because at the 4 F mark or Sec. Call the race is 80% over. That's right, now think about that. Anyway that's enough for this particular thread!! I have to leave for dialysis and I'll post the answer to this problem in my new thread which I started and I'm sure I'll be allowed to post in. See that thread titled False Early horses, % Med Tool etc. this evening for the answer to this problem as I'm tied up till about 6PM. Mitch44 |

Hi Ted, For the adjusted screen, is there a chart available showing the beaten lengths time value for each distance so that I could add to the 1st, 2nd, and final times in the adjusted screen? Sometimes I like to see the horses adjusted times and converting each horses selected lines from Velocity-POH becomes time consuming. I know the .20 per B/L is not accurate but is very fast to do. Thanks

Hi Ted,
I have been doing my best to think about it and what you said and I am pretty sure you hit on something when you pointed out it was taken off the turf. I had assembled it the day before I think and chosen my pacelines. I wonder if when I changed from turf to main track something got funky. |

Dan, it's a fair question, but IMO a less likely scenario, since all that happens when you change the Surface is that RDSS simply reassembles the race from scratch according to your chosen (if any) paceline Selection Strategy and the new Surface/Distance settings for the race. Old line selections are abandoned just as if you had hit Clear Cache or re-assembled manually by right-click. But thanks for continuing to sleuth this - it is vexing and should never happen 🤔Ted
