Dubai World Cup

I wanted to post this in the selections area and say 'anyone but California Chrome', but that isn't really providing any analysis.

Like some misguided sherpa I quickly found past performances for the entire card on Saturday. So, if you would like to figuratively rub elbows with Middle-East Oil barons, here are the past performances.

Just quickly scanning the past performances I discovered a horse in the 6th race, the 13 horse Cool Cowboy, has won a minor stake at Mountaineer.....and now it is in a stakes race for a purse of 2 million dollars.

The 5th race was a turf sprint, 5 furlongs. But due to the configuration of the track they run it like a quarter horse race - 5 furlongs with no turns.

Final time was 57.2 or something in that vicinity.

Here it comes, the 6th race. I never realized that David Jacobson has a horse in this race. I always thought of Jacobson as being more of a claiming trainer.

edit added: Secret Circle won by a head/neck. Pretty thrilling race.

Well, well!

The 1 horse, Prince Bishop, beat California Chrome, which I think came in second. Beat by about 4 lengths, Chrome had no gas left in the tank for the last half of the stretch. Prince Bishop closed from last to win. An incredible performance.

I'm not surprised Chrome lost. I think California Chrome is a very good horse, just not a great horse. Of the two most recent horses to get two legs in the Triple Crown, I think I'll Have Another is/was much the better horse.
