Syndicates
There has been an increasing frequency by posters on these forums to take shots at the idea of "syndicates" not betting certain longshot horses. Those who do so are showing their ignorance of who the "syndicates" are and how they bet.
These betting syndicates are in the game mainly for one reason: to bet large enough volume to earn the maximum rebate. The are looking for high probability win (and sometimes place) bets -- the higher the probability, the better. They are NOT looking to bet overlays or longshots. Most, if not all of their bets are on horses to win going off 7/5 or lower. In fact, some good value can be had when their horse does not win, and bets on other horses have "value" in the pari-mutuel pools. So if you are going to make a sarcastic comment about "syndicates", make sure you have your facts straight. Richard |
