Going to the track with Dad

Hello From Favorites in Toms River New Jersey

Its great to be at the track/otb with dad We both have our
tracks worked. He has Gulfstream and Aqueduct
I have Tampa and Philly . The Sartin Methodology in our game plans
but dad is very unusual in how he uses it. Nobody drives my dad.
He is the captain and if he is in the car he is at the wheel,
So on the way here I make conversation from the shotgun seat
about deceleration . Yeah dad in the very early 90's Do went away
from linear math. The Sartin methodology way everywhere. It was hot
Modern pace handicappling was a big seller Pace makes the race was hot
Jim Bradshaw had his original match up book Brisnet was advertising
data files 5 of which said the used Sartin style numbers
Doc instead worked on not how fast horses ran but how they decelerated
like everybody could see the horse ran 22.4 in the first fraction
Everybody saw the second call at 46.0 The better ones and the linerar
programs showed a 2nd fraction or "turn time" of 23.1 or even
55.55 Feet Per Second ( thats a guess from me I don't know about
converting frations to feet per second)
anyway I'm telling dad about this and I tell him about how Doc
instead started to thiink and program about why some horses ran
the second and third fractions faster or slower than others.
He wanted to measure the way they decelerated. What he discovered was
the match up of the horses in the race caused the acceleration to
change but there deceleration rates were much more consistant.
The new Sartin Methodology of today would be more how much of
the horses total energy would be used early and late
The energy and deceleration replaces velocity
Why would a horse run a 24.4 third fraction ? and another run
25.4 How could a program measure and rate the Velocity relative to deceleration ? I wondered and with excitement asked So dad what do you think ?

Thats great Bill but I was thinking about were we are gonna park

yes, that's him alright

hi Bill, yes, that was so typical. Even after 55 years of wedded bliss, I still am amazed when he responds like that to something real important that I am telling him! All we can do is laugh it off. Love, Mom

Bill:

I was there on Saturday but didn't spot you. I've been "Wintering" at Favorites. Very nice location. Tell me when you'll be there next.

Your Dad was looking at the the absolute bottom line. Where to park and let's find the bathroom.

Wow Bill ! This triggers many a memory. My Dad and I made many a trip to the track and he always had the bottom-line thinking. And he would always say to me "what do you think?". Thanks for bringing back the memories. ramon
