The whole bleeding cycle

One of the MOST common causes in taking Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, ANY of them, is bleeding as it inhibits platelet aggregation (the first step in clot formation)

Permissive use of bute causes BLEEDING. Did we have as many bleeder before BUTE?. NO where close.

So to add to the STUPIDITY and short sightedness, the powers that be make up a new syndrome which they claim arrived de novo, Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage.

What a load of crap. One pharmacological short cut has to be covered by another one.

North America is the only venue on earth that has this significant a problem since the rest of the world does not force true bleeders to run and tries to breed away from them.

I've been a horse owner and this didn't sound right to me. So, I copied the above and sent it in an email to my friend, an equine veterinarian. My vet friend offered the following reply:

First – there were “bleeders” before there was such a thing as bute. They wrote about it hundreds of years ago.

Second - it’s just as common to see bleeding in horses that don’t get bute as in those that do. The horse likely be getting toxic levels of bute to become thrombocytopenic enough to cause bleeding – they’d probably be colicky from GI ulcers in that case anyway (and not racing).

They think the mechanism of bleeding is an increased caplillary blood pressure. Here’s a good article:

Good article David, thanks for posting. It's nice to see research back up a claim. Although not as in depth, here's another one that may help to explain part of the problem. It's not as simple as some people think.
