Position vs velocity
I read Brohammer and still disagree with him,
A horse can consistently sprint 22.3 45.3. You put an equivalent of the mechanical rabbit found at dog tracks up against him and go 22 45, where is he? Back a few lengths. Is he now not early? He is still running the same, but the yardstick of pace places him back. Run that "rabbit" closer to 22,3 45.3 and where is he: right behind that rabbit. Go beneath his threshold and he is right on top of that rabbit AND at a later energy distribution: just like in real life. Without the yardstick of pace, position is irrelevant. Positional front runners, the true ones that just give enough to stay in front are few and far between: Nashua, the steroid cripple BB, Barbaro and, at times, Hard Spun |
